Good afternoon,

Mental Health Awareness Week - focus on Kindness - have a look at the stories here and our presentation for Thought for the Week

Year 11 Hoodies - A slight change of plan: if you wish to collect a Year 11 hoodie that you have ordered then they can be collected between 9am and 2.30pm any day over the next couple of weeks.  If you are unable to collect it don't worry - we will hang onto it until the pandemic eases and you can come and get it.

Support for learning:  All our teachers are providing individual support via email and/or Microsoft Teams to students in their classes - please remind your son or daughter to get in contact with their teacher if they need assistance with any of their study at home.

Opening school to more students:  As well all know, the government guidance is that we need to offer some face to face support to supplement the remote learning by Year 10s.  Each student has been able to access the individual support that teachers are giving every student via email and Microsoft Teams since we closed in March.  We have been considering safe ways to bring Year 10s in to enable some face-to-face support, but we are still awaiting a Department for Education planning document for secondary schools. The focus has clearly been on primary schools and there is still considerable national debate about plans to re-open schools.  For these reasons I am not yet able to communicate a plan to offer face-to-face support for remote learning for Year 10s and my judgement is that I will not be able to communicate such a plan until after half-term, assuming I receive the necessary government information.  The top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and families, followed by the provision of individual support for our students' learning.

Half--term:  Under these odd circumstances, next week is half-term. We remain open for the children of key workers and those who are considered vulnerable - as we have been since March.  We have 19 such students in today.  During the half-term week we are unlikely to respond to emails and I will only send parent/carer updates if there is an urgent matter to communicate.  We will not be setting work for home study for the half-term week. "Normal service" after Friday will resume on Monday 1st June....

Best wishes, stay safe. and I hope that you get a chance to see something of the sunshine today...
