On the 2nd of January I used national information to write about the important of attendance at school.  We are having a focus on attendance over the next few weeks and we will trial an approach where students write their current attendance percentage in their planner each week.  Please have a look at it with your son or daughter - we know that below 95% a young person's chances of getting good GCSEs is much reduced.  I am aware that some students have long term health conditions which mean that they are frequently off school, but for most of our students 95% attendance or better is entirely achievable.

Year 11:  It is Week 3 of the revision plan - copies online here.  If you are a parent or carer of a Year 11 please make sure that they are following the plan day by day so that they revise everything in time for their exams (the main papers are 9 weeks away!).  We will shortly be issuing a timetable for "Easter School" - some subjects offer revision sessions over the Easter break in preparation for the coming GCSE series.

Changes in the Science department:  Following my notice about the retirement of Mrs Schultz as Head of Science I am pleased to announce the appointment of Miss Balmforth, currently at Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge, as Head of Science from September.

Website update:  Every 3 years our website undergoes a renewal and, as part of that, a photographer was in school for a whole day this week taking images that we will use on the website in the near future.  We are, of course, aware of students whose images cannot be used for such purposes.  The photographer enjoyed his day with us and I know that he has some wonderful photographs!

Coronavirus - Covid-19:  We are all concerned about the spread of Corona virus around the world and in the UK.  As a school we will act on all information, guidance and direction from Public Health England and Lancashire Local Authority.  Individual advice and guidance can be found here.

Have a good week!
