17 Principles of Instruction

Recall and Starts of Lessons

One of our classroom Basics is that we ask students to complete a starter in silence. The following strategy is taken from the How2s and contains some simple ideas to get learning off to a flying start by consolidating prior learning first.

Students will accept that work starts immediately upon arrival in the classroom SO THAT THEY become accustomed to a strong work ethic and practice SO THAT THEY develop the habit and skills ready for independent learning.

TeachingHow2s

There is a section on Principles of Instruction.  Use it to guide your own CPD and be curious about how you can develop as a practitioner.  We are all able to adapt and improve.

You will receive a ‘nudge’ this week linked to silent starters and ‘desk work’.  Read it and use the suggested strategies to refresh your practice.
